There was been a lot of outrage on the recent Airtel TV advert on social media. A lot of feminist are calling the advert regressive- women is boss in house and yet she has to cook.
I guess people see what they want to see. For instance no noticed that the couple shown on the advert were completely in love with each other. There was no mention of the poor guy who had to agree twice to the boss- once to stay in office late to finish work and then come back as soon as the dinner was ready. The Chinese food looked nice on the table. And the couple was really cute never mind the husband had saved his wife name as ” wife” in the phone “).
Gender equality in my humble opinion cannot come by debating endlessly about who does what in the house. I think everyone should cook- men and women both. Women can have careers and some men can take care of the house( and sneak out for long runs). The reality is that some of us would love it if we don’t have to go to office to work every day.
Before gender equality comes equality. It cannot exist in isolation. There is no point of having gender equality in the household but treat your maid and driver with disrespect. So equality first. Teach kids to give love and respect and everything will fall in place.
