In the movie “Million dollar baby” Morgan Freeman says to Clint Eastwood (who is deeply disturbed that his boxing Protege is bed ridden and wanting to die) “People die everyday, Frankie – mopping floors, washing dishes and you know what their last thought is? I never got my shot. Because of you Maggie got her shot. If she dies today you know what her last thought would be? I think I did all right.
Death is around us all the time. You could wake up dead tomorrow. You can get killed on the road or get a heart attack or decide to take your life. But if the your last thoughts are “I think I did all right” then I guess nothing really matters. It doesn’t matter than if you died young or old, your life was taken away or you pulled the plug.
You sometimes wonder why someone as young as 25 and as beautiful as Jia Nafisa Khan would decide to end her life because everyone makes her feel she is a failure. She is actually not a failure. She got her shot. Her first film was with Amitabh Bacchhan. She had the age on her side and I’m sure she would have found many more acting assignments. But she took the extreme step and I’m sure she would have very good reasons or at least felt so at that moment.
Rest in Peace Jiah, you were not a failure. You did all right.
