Preparation for joy of giving week are in full swing. For this year Joy of Giving week (JGW) will be celebrated from October 2nd to October 8th 2012. For more information about activities and events please visit www.joyofgivingweek.org.
Delhi has more than 100,000 people who are homeless. Of those who cannot afford to buy or get, often go without a nutritious meal for 5-7 days. So we have come with the idea to providing at-least one nutritious meal to all the homeless people in Delhi on 4th October 2012 during Joy of Giving week 12.
We will be making 100,000 healthy sandwiches 🙂 and distributing them. And we will be involving large number of volunteers in doing the same.
While having a one time activity around food doesn’t really solve the problem and we can have endless debates about what is nutritious or not we feel that such activities are a step towards sensitizing people towards issues of homelessness and its definitely better than doing nothing about it.
So how to go about doing it.
We will involve large number of volunteers and run teams of volunteers who will bring the things needed to make sandwiches, make them, pack them and then go to a particular area in Delhi and distribute them. We will allocate specific areas to teams to go and distribute sandwiches so that we get 100% coverage. iVolunteer, the organisation that I work for is also willing to support this initiative as part of its celebration of Joy of Giving week 2012
We feel that it is an excellent opportunity for people from all walks of life to contribute to the Joy of Giving week . And this initiative is also a great opportunity for companies who want to get involved during the joy of giving week and are also looking to involve their employees.
Making sandwich in a team itself is a a great fun filled activity- and then the satisfaction of feeding someone who is hungry doubles up the joy.
We are now in the process of putting in place a small team that will make this happen. If you would like to be part of this team then do contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Please mark 4th October 2012 in your calendars.
Together we will make it happen.
